POSTED ON

The Abbott Government has moved to avoid parliamentary scrutiny over their latest unfair attack on vulnerable jobseekers.

Last night Assistant Minister Luke Hartsuyker shut down debate in the House of Representatives on a Bill that will:

  • Remove basic rights of appeal for jobseekers who have their payments suspended for failing to attend appointments; and

  • Force over 55 year olds to meet new activity tests or risk losing payments, despite zero analysis of the impact of age discrimination in job market.

The Stronger Regions Fund is cold comfort to regional Australia that has seen nothing but cuts and neglect since the Abbott Government took office.

POSTED ON
September 08

MONDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER 2014

The Shadow Minister for Employment Services, Julie Collins, said the Member for Braddon Brett Whiteley’s idea to open up Work for the Dole to small businesses would be a disaster for North West Tasmanian job seekers looking for paid employment.

Ms Collins said Mr Whiteley’s plan would see less North West job seekers being employed in paid work, as small businesses would simply fill job vacancies with Work for the Dole participants.
