NBN Co CEO Bill Morrow has revealed that Tasmanians will be forced to dip into their own pocket if they want to get the real NBN despite pre-election assurances from Malcolm Turnbull that contracts to roll out the real NBN across Tasmania would be honoured.

Before the federal election Malcolm Turnbull said a Liberal Government would honour existing contracts to roll out Labor’s Fibre-to-the-Premises NBN across Tasmania.

TONY ABBOTT'S DOUBLE HIT ON SICK PEOPLE IN FRANKLIN

The Federal Member for Franklin, Julie Collins, said families across the electorate would be among those hardest hit by Tony Abbott’s decisions to introduce a new $7 GP tax and increase the cost of medicines.

JOE HOCKEY OUT OF TOUCH WITH TASMANIA

The Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Julie Collins, said Joe Hockey had made a mockery of his position as Treasurer by not understanding the reality of car ownership in Tasmania.

 

Ms Collins said the comments made by Mr Hockey yesterday were a clear indication that he did not understand the full impact of how the petrol tax increase would affect Tasmanians.

ABBOTT GOVERNMENT’S MIDLAND HIGHWAY FUNDING SHORTFALL

The Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Julie Collins, has called on the Abbott Government to clarify the amount of funding it has allocated for Tasmania’s Midland Highway.

 

Ms Collins said the Abbott Government had not only cut $100 million from the Midland Highway but it was also at odds with the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development when it came to allocating its committed $40 million annually over 10 years.

ACTON PARK AND LAUDERDALE RESIDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM

The Federal Member for Franklin, Julie Collins, has welcomed a $225,000 investment to fix a dangerous black spot at the intersection of Acton Road and Tara Drive.

 

Ms Collins said the Australian Government funding would be used to install turning lanes at the Acton Park intersection.

Labor State conference delegates today unanimously supported a motion calling on the Abbott Government to act decisively to provide support and help unemployed Tasmanians find a new job.

The motion called on the Government to immediately reinstate the North West Coast Employment Coordinator and to provide an intensive support package to help unemployed workers find a new job.

Tasmanians should be disappointed at the disgraceful lack of action from the Federal Liberal Member for Braddon, Brett Whiteley in the wake of the Mount Lyell mine closure and impending Henty mine closure and the 350 jobs that go with them.
